キビタキ Narcissus Flycatcher

 この日、たくさんのキビタキのオスに出会った。ジジと音を立てながら争うオスたちも何度か見ました。

 旭川市の突哨山では、センダイムシクイの鳴き声がたくさん聞こえた。

コゲラ Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker

 巣穴をつつくコゲラがいた。しばらく眺めていると、

I found a Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker pecking at the tree. 

顔をのぞかせた。    The Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker entered its nest and looked at me.

ヤマゲラ Grey-headed Green Woodpecker

 カタクリの季節の終盤に突哨山を歩いていると、突然緑のキツツキがやって来た。ヤマゲラのメス。初めまして。

When I was walking on Toshozan in Asahikawa, a green woodpecker appeared. I saw Grey-headed Green Woodpecker for the first time in my life.

 目を閉じると、白いまぶた。　　　Their eyelids are white. 

地面に下りて、土をつつき始めた。　　The Grey-headed Green Woodpecker came down from the tree and started pecking the ground.

また会いましょう。　　　　I hope to see you again!

グンカンドリ Frigatebird

 ノース・セイモア島では、たくさんの若鳥がいました。

I saw lots of young frigatebirds in North Seymour Island.

グンカンドリ Frigatebird

 グンカンドリのこどもは、頭が白い。もふもふのヒナと、親鳥と同じくらいの大きさの若鳥。

The young frigatebirds has a white head.

アメリカグンカンドリ Magnificent Frigatebird

 オスの首の後ろの羽根は、紫っぽい。

The male’s scapular feathers have a purple sheen.

 繁殖期は、オスは喉袋を思いっきり膨らませてメスにアピール。

Male birds inflate a red ballon to attract females in the breeding season.

メスは胸が白い。　Female birds have a white breast.

オオグンカンドリ Great Frigatebird

 オスは首の後ろの羽根が光が当たると、美しいグリーン。

The male’s scapular feathers have a green sheen. 

メスは目の周りが赤い。　Female birds have a red eye ring.

グンカンドリ Frigatebird

 ガラパゴス諸島では、グンカンドリをよく見かけた。

I often saw Frigatebird in Galapagos Islands.

 喉袋を膨らませて飛行している鳥も。  Male birds have a red balloon on their necks.

 巣作りのためのもの？　　　Is he making a nest?

 ノース・セイモア島には、オオグンカンドリとアメリカグンカンドリがいました。

There were lots of Frigatebird on North Seymour Island.

ちょうど繁殖期でした。The time I visited in Galapagos Islands was their breeding season.

ガラパゴスペンギン Galapagos Penguin

バルトロメ島の海岸に、ガラパゴスペンギンが１羽だけいました。

There was a Galapagos Penguin on the coast of Bartolome Island.
